Hypnotic Interruption
Technique -
Polarity Play
Polarity plays involve enacting more dramatically and congruently a dominant
behavioral pattern of the person, thereby interrupting the person's ability
to continue with such behavior.

This particular hypnotic interruption technique is used extensively in
a branch of hypnosis / therapy called "provocative therapy".
There were instances where years of psychotherapy wouldn't bring any benefit
to the person and where a daring therapist would get the person out of
his dysfunctional state in a matter of hours or even minutes. The process
sometimes seems humorous, other times cruel, but the point is - it works.
Here are few examples:
One person was in a catatonic (motionless) state for almost 16 years.
The therapist figured if the person has chosen to act like a piece of
furniture, he may as well threat him as such - so he got all the students
on the premises he could get and asked each one of them to sit on this
person for about 20 minutes. It only took several students, before the
catatonic didn't want to play that game any more and came out of catatonia.
And then there was a humorous story about a woman who was stuck in the
mental hospital because she was telling everyone that she is dating Jesus.
The therapist chose to play her game and found one very beautiful student
and sent her to this woman to tell her a story that she is also dating
Jesus and that, as a matter of fact, she is her favorite girlfriend and
was getting ready to go on a date with him. It didn't take long before
the first woman became enraged with the student's preposterous claim and
came out of her delusion.
