Time for a Change and
The Power of Intention
Every once in a while I get emails with someone asking me "how much
time will it take" to create such and such a change with hypnosis.
While the time it takes any specific person to create a desired change
will depend on that person's beliefs, worldview, desires, motivations,
expectations, previous experiences, individual abilities, and techniques
used - here are some general guidelines.
When you desire
to create a change in an area where you already possess an ability (consciously
or subconsciously) relevant to creating that specific change, you may
have the change even instantly, because these types of changes are based
predominantly on your individual desire and motivation.
If you were able to do something, even once, before, you already possess
a belief system that will support such a change. You know that at least
at some point in your life you were able to have that desired experience,
or that an experience that is currently presenting a problem, was not
a problem at some other time.
You can draw on your past experience, when the problem didn't exist,
and bring your resources from the past into your present experience to
eliminate the problem. An example of this may be if you suffer from insomnia
or stress or even dealing with some forms of addictions. Since you didn't
always have such a problem, and since you have lived your life successfully
without these problems at some point in your life - if you really want
to, you can have these changes instantly.
Sometimes we
tend to generalize the problem and think about it as all-pervading, even
though there may be times, even in the present, when the problem exists,
and there may be times when the same problem doesn't exist. Some examples
of these types of situations may be relationship challenges or dealing
with pain. In these situations, you can shift your focus from the challenging
times, to problem-free times and thereby reinforce them.
You may have
had spontaneous experiences where even in the midst of pain you were mentally
distracted by some pleasant experience and immersed in it completely forgot
about the pain. By pleasantly distracting yourself intentionally, you
can eliminate pain - instantly.
And the same is true of relationship problems. There may be times when
some behavior another person exhibits may bother you very much. And then,
you may recall a time when the same behavior in another person didn't
have that much importance and you were much more tolerant of another person's
imperfections. Whether you simply felt so good about yourself and about
your life, or you spontaneously focused more on what you liked and appreciated
in another, or simply realized that no one is perfect, you were in a more
forgiving state of mind. By re-creating the same state of mind intentionally,
you can enjoy your relationships more on a consistent basis.
In all the above cases, you can intend to have the desired change, you
can decide that you are going to have it and you can have it more or less
instantly. It gets a little bit different when you're working on changes
that require skills you have yet to develop. By rehearsing them in your
mind, while you are in a state of hypnosis, as if you already had those
changes now, you can accelerate your progress. By working with Time-Lines
and other techniques from Neuro-Linguistic Programming, you can greatly
accelerate such changes - but they will still take time, dedication and
some effort to develop.
If you have
never played a piano and desire to become a famous virtuoso, it's highly
unlikely you'll just listen to a hypnosis recording or have a hypnosis
session, and wake up in the morning with the change you had in mind. You
will have to invest years of practice - practicing for many, many hours
a day - yet with a help of hypnosis and time-line techniques you can develop
your expertise much faster.
If you desire to create changes in your body and you've never consciously
even attempted to produce such changes with your mind intentionally before,
then it will take time to condition your subconscious with this new ability.
And it is an ability, a skill, that
takes time to master just like any other skill.
Once you have developed the required skills, once you have trained your
mind to create desired changes instantly, all that you will need is a
mere intent, and you will have a change. There was a time when
you didn't know how to walk and it took a lot of effort learning how to
balance yourself and to get your body to respond the way you wanted it,
but once you have mastered the art of walking, all it took to get anywhere
walking was an intent and your body would respond.
The same power of intent works when you are using your
mind power to produce effects with "remote" hypnosis. Even though
there may be no tangible feedback here, you can "feel" the intent
as the movement of energy.
When you intend
a change, the following process occurs (though it may happen so fast that
you're not aware of it): an idea, the thought activates your emotions;
emotions move the energy; and the energy expresses through whatever physical
means of expression are associated with your intent.
If you were laying on a bed, relaxed, and you intended to get up - the
thought and the feeling of how would it be to get up would occur first
(desire to get up or feeling that you have to), followed by the movement
of energy of your body, (or if you like - the time it takes for the intention
from your mind to be communicated through your neurology to your body)
which would then pull your physical body out of bed. This movement
of energy, just before your body responds by actually getting out of bed
- is how intent feels.
When you are
working on creating a change in your body, before the actual change occurs,
the intent, the movement of energy manifests first - then the change becomes
reflected in the physical body.
When using "remote" hypnosis, it is your intent that directs
the energy to produce the effects you are after. As you use hypnosis,
as you use your mind to create desired changes intentionally, you are
conditioning your subconscious mind and you are creating a neurological
"pathway" that the idea you intended to manifest will
take and travel enabling you to produce instant changes.
All the magic and instant changes you are able to produce are
based on some skills and abilities you have developed previously.
There is no unexplainable, mystical magic in hypnosis - all the
magic comes from the mind-power you care to develop.
Just because it may take you more time to develop certain abilities doesn't
mean that they are impossible for you to develop. It only means that you
need to be more patient and to keep on using your mind-power intentionally
as often as you can, in every area of your life. The more you
practice, the more proficient you become and the faster results will you
be able to produce.
Saying that you "tried" something once, or even for two months
or six months and didn't get desired results, so you got discouraged and
concluded it doesn't work - only says that you didn't care about that
change enough to persist until you got the change you desired - or, that
you didn't use self-hypnosis correctly. If you really want the change,
and are willing to invest all the energy and effort it takes to get it
- you can have the change.
If you are attempting to create results in an area that requires more
skill working with mind power than you currently possess, you should back-track
and start from the beginning - training your mind step-by-step. You
can click here for some helpful mind-training exercises.
In A Course in Miracles it says "infinite patience brings
instant results". The reason for this is - when you let
go of tensions, impatience and anxiety you allow all the energy necessary
to produce the desired change to flow freely through you. You are in a
relaxed state and in a state of allowing. When you demand that the change
occurs by a certain time in a certain way, you tense and block the flow
of energy, creating an inner obstacle for such a change to occur - and
it will take more time to get the change you are after.
Hypnotists, hypnosis recordings and various techniques and technologies
are there simply to help you harness and utilize your own mind-power more
effectively. In order to get the most out of these tools, you still have
to three essentials - desire to have a change, belief
that such change is possible for you to accomplish, and motivation
that will keep you wholeheartedly committed to the realization of your
outcome and carry you through any obstacles until you reach your goal.
You also need to entertain a sense of expectation and
weed out all doubts, impatience and anxiety.
