Develop Focus and Concentration

Perhaps you can remember a time when something so captured your interest and imagination that you couldn't get it out of your mind. Wherever you went, that's all that you could think of.

Perhaps you can think of some very interesting book you read, or some very interesting conversation you had, or some very interesting movie you saw that made you feel totally enraptured.

If you've ever had such experiences, then you have no problem with focus and concentration (and for any parents reading this and thinking that their kids have attention deficit disorder or any such silly thing - please think again! and whatever you do, please don't stuff your children with Ritalin or any other similar drugs that have terrible side-effects).

Whatever may have been your past experiences with focus and concentration, I would like to you think now of something that you very much enjoy, something that makes you thoroughly good and find out how long are you able to think about it.

It is natural for your thoughts to wander around and it will be no problem as long as you keep them wondering within the subject you have chosen to focus upon.

One characteristic of hypnosis is that it is a state of mind in which your mind is entirely focused upon one specific thing you desire to experience. That is also the purpose of recordings which contain brainwave synchronization and that is the purpose of the depth of hypnosis - to help you to engage all of your senses upon that which you are focusing upon.

Sometimes when you feel restless, you may even find it easier to focus upon your chosen subject if you keep on moving around. You do not have to sit still in order to focus and concentrate, but when you do become deeply focused upon your chosen topic, it will happen that you may entirely lose an awareness of your body.

This actually happens all the time even if you never thought about it. When you read an interesting book or watch an interesting movie, or have a very interesting conversation, you may entirely forget about your body. A person with a headache may forget all about the headache and any other sensations in her body while she is having a very interesting conversation over the telephone.

If you feel restless and jumpy then go out and jump or exercise or dance - let your body move. And while you're at it - you can incorporate the movement of your body to match that which you desire to focus upon.

Sometimes when I focus I sit completely motionless - other times I'll swim or dance or even do weight lifting or ride a bike or just walk - while I'm practicing self-hypnosis and focusing. Physical movement and exercise then become part of the magical experience.

The more you practice holding your attention on any chosen topic, the easier will it become for you to maintain focus and concentration. This will never work if you're bored. In order to focus and concentrate successfully you have to be interested in the subject. If there's nothing interesting - then make it interesting. Bring whatever it is you are focusing upon to life. Incorporate into it something that interests you. Turn in into a game you enjoy playing.

Here is one traditional Exercises for Focus and Concentration:

Candle Flame Exercise

Put a candle on the table in front of you. Light a wick and focus on the candle flame. If you attention wander, just gently bring it back and keep on looking at a candle flame.

If you want to make it more fun and interesting, you may "converse" with a candle flame. Even though the candle flame doesn't speak human language, nevertheless you can establish communication telepathically because your thoughts become translated into a vibrational frequency and if you remember from other writing on this website - everything in the universe is made out of energy and energy follows thought.

So, you can imagine candle flame moving to the right or to the left or becoming bigger or smaller and notice what happens. You can also imagine yourself first merging with a candle flame, becoming a candle flame and then imagine yourself dancing as a candle flame and notice what happens.

When you're done with your experiments thank the candle flame for the opportunity it gave you to learn and discover something new. As we move along with different exercises and practices, you'll learn that feelings of love, gratitude and appreciation toward all forms of life and energy will take you a long way and you'll make very fast progress, because you'll learn how to establish "rapport" with anything.

In short, to influence anything or anyone successfully in any way, you'll first have to establish "rapport". Interesting in something or someone is a form of love and appreciation.
